    The Duke and Duchess of Windsor released their memoirs in 1951 and 1956, respectively. The Duke of Windsor’s autobiography, A King’s Story, charts his early youth at Sandringham, his years at Naval School on the Isle of Wight and his time at Magdalen College, Oxford, and takes in his military service during World War I before he ascended the throne on the death of his father George V, in 1936.
