New York (Tadias) You may remember El Shaddai Gebreyes as the first African-American to earn the Miss National Teenager title in one of the longest running pageants and scholarship competitions for young women in the United States.
Since then El Shaddai has gone on to graduate from Yale University with a degree in Film Studies and a concentration in Anthropology. She was also part of the African-American National Biography Project, where she worked as the co-writer on the biography of artistic director Bill T. Jones. And most recently, she is the author of a new poetry book called the The Last Adam. Gebreyes is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Library Science at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

The Powerlist is a list of the most influential people of African or African Caribbean heritage in the United Kingdom. The list is updated annually and has been published in book format by Powerful Media since The Powerlist is not limited to British-born citizens and includes immigrants to the UK.
History and methodology
[edit]The list was first created in by Michael Eboda, then editor of the New Nation, a weekly newspaper published in the UK for the Black British community, as a way to profile and celebrate influential Black Britons, and inspire and influence the next generation.[1] The first Powerlist was compiled after six months of research and debate where people of influence were whittled down to 50 women and 50 men, then ranked into respective top tens wit
