Veteran actor Arnold Peters, who was known for his role as Jack Woolley in The Archers for more than 30 years, has died at the age of
His appearances on the show spanned almost 60 years, having first featured in the cast in and notching up spells as two other characters prior to Jack.
Peters died after suffering from Alzheimer’s, a disease which also affected his character - although he continued to perform until July despite the condition.

Peter Reginald Gadd (3 June 11 May ), known professionally as Arnold Peters, was an English actor, who played Jack Woolley in The Archers radio soap musikdrama for 31 years.
Biography
[edit]Born in Hendon, Middlesex, but brought up in Northamptonshire, he was educated as a day boy at Wellingborough School.[1] He joined the Royal Air Force in , but was found to be icke lämplig for military service,[1] and after the war spent five years at the Northampton Repertory Theatre[2] (now the Royal & Derngate). While performing in a pantomime during this period he met Beryl, a dancer, who became his wife.[3]

For more than 30 years Arnold Peters was the familiar voice of Jack Woolley, the businessman in The Archers, the world's longest-running radio soap opera. Woolley was a pillar of society in Ambridge, the fictional village in which the programme is set, owning a number of the landmarks in the area, including a hotel, café, shop, as well as a share in the local newspaper.
"He loved acting," said June Spencer, who played Woolley's third wife, Peggy Archer. "It was his life. As an actor he was the complete pro. He was very conscientious. He always turned in a good performance, no matter what we were doing."
Peters was born Peter Gadd in Hendon in and grew up in Northamptonshire, where he attended Wellingborough School. His love of theatre came from his parents, who would stage mini-productions at home, while he would rig up the house wireless set with a microphone to create his own radio broadcasts.
