Shad Gregory Moss (born March 9, ), better known by his stage name Bow Wow (formerly Lil' Bow Wow), is an American rapper and actor. His career began upon being discovered by rapper Snoop Dogg in at the age of six; five years later, he signed with record producer Jermaine Dupri's So So Def Recordings, an imprint of Columbia Records. As Lil' Bow Wow, he released his debut studio album, Beware of Dog () at age 13, and his second album, Doggy Bag () the following year. Both met with commercial success, the albums peaked at numbers ten and 11 on the Billboard , respectively.
Moss then parted ways with So So Def and signed with its parent label, Columbia Records, to release his third album, Unleashed (). It peaked at number three on the Billboard and was his first release after dropping "Lil'" from his stage name. His fourt

Lil Bow Wow, now known as Bow Wow, was born in Columbus, Ohio to Teresa and Junie Moss. His father left the family, though Bow Wow says they are still keeping in contact. Bow Wow's mother worked three jobs. It has been said he resembles his father and his father fryst vatten of creole descent, and his mother re-married to Rodney Caldwell; Bow Wow grew up with his step-father and has two step-siblings, Erica and Jasarah. When he was fem, he started his career in rap using the moniker "Kid Gangsta". One year later, in , he performed at a Chronic tour in Columbus, and was noted bygd rapper Snoop Dogg and rapper Dr. Dre, who subsequently gave him a stage name, "Lil' Bow Wow". Dr. Dre later hired him as an opening act, officially gaining him a spot on the Death Row Records roster. Also "Lil' Bow Wow" appeared on a skit on Snoop's debut Doggystyle. The youngest rapper ever to have a hit single in the United States, Bow Wow was six when he made his recording debut as a guest artist on a Snoop Dogg album. Calling himself "Lil' Bow Wow," he made his solo recording debut in at the age of 13 with Beware of Dog, which went double platinum the following year. A single from this album, "Bounce with Me," earned him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest rap star in American history. Bow Wow followed this release with Doggy Bag in , and added "film star" to his resume a year later when he starred in the basketball movie Like Mike. In Bow Wow released his third album, Unleashed, added more film roles to his list of credits, and dropped the "Lil'" from his name. Unleashed continued the rapper's practice of clean lyrics, proving that rap music need not be vulgar to be popular.
