Jerome Allen Seinfeld (SYNE-feld; born April 29, ) is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and producer. As a stand-up comedian, Seinfeld specializes in observational comedy. Seinfeld has received numerous accolades including a Primetime Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Awards, and three Screen Actors Guild Awards as well as nominations for fyra Grammy Awards. Jerry Seinfeld is a Jewish American comedian, actor, writer and television and film producer best-know for his role on the hit show Seinfeld, which he co-created and co-wrote with Larry David.
Jerome “Jerry” Seinfeld was born on April 29, , in Brooklyn, New York. His father, Kalman Seinfeld, was of Austrian Jewish background and was a sign maker; his mother, Betty, is of Sephardi Mizrahi Syrian Jewish descent. Her family was registered as Turkish.
In , after his graduation from Queens College, Seinfeld tried out at an open mic night at New York’s Catch a Rising Star. Soon after, he began appearing in a Rodney Dangerfield HBO special. In , he had a small recurring role as Frankie on the sitcom Benson. In May of , he made a highly successful appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Seinfeld then became a regular on similar shows, including Late Night with David Letterman and The Merv Griffin Show.

Jerry Seinfeld was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Betty (Hesney) and Kalman Seinfeld. His father was of Hungarian Jewish descent, while Jerry's maternal grandparents, Salha and Selim Hosni, were Syrian Jewish immigrants (from Aleppo). He moved with his family, including sister Carolyn, to suburban Massepequa, Long Island, at a young age. Jerry's dad, who had a terrific sense of humor, was a commercial sign maker.
